FIND YOUR INNER PEACE IN SEDONA

Ever since Ray lived on an ashram while pursuing her yoga teacher training in the mountains of Nederland, Colorado, she’s wanted to visit Nepal; I too want to go there but for more mountainous pursuits in addition to the beautiful culture. So, after we wrapped up our afternoon at Slide Rock State Park, I surprised her and the kids with a visit to the Amitabha Stupa & Peace Park in West Sedona.

We parked at a small dirt lot on the northern side of town and hiked up a short trail. You’d never know this park was here if you didn’t search for it. It’s tucked behind a neighborhood of houses; no touristy vibes or giant signage beckoning you to visit. It truly is a “seek and you shall find” kind of place. As you reach the top of the lower part of the trail, the stupa reveals itself surrounded by the majestic red rocks and spires that make Sedona famous.

We spent about an hour here taking in the views, meditating and generally enjoying the space. There are pockets of private benches nestled in the surrounding pinion and junipers where you can sit and view the stupa. Surrounding the stupa is a walking meditation path and adjacent to it you will find beautifully crafted prayer wheels.

The stupa is spiritual destination for people of all faiths and is free to visit. We highly recommend visiting the Amitabha Stupa or any others you’re able to see. They are one of the oldest forms of religious architecture on the planet and stunning to see in person.
