CAMPING, ROCKETS & JETS... OH MY.

The Stafford Air & Space Museum offers free overnight stays for self-contained RVs. If you arrive early, the museum is open until 5pm. Admission to the museum is $7 for adults and $3 for kids. There are four designated RV parking spots where you can setup for the evening. When we called they said even if the RV spots were taken, we could park anywhere in the lot. We got lucky and had the place all to ourselves! If you get lucky you’ll see planes takeoff or land in the small airport adjacent to the museum. We highly recommend considering this Harvest Hosts location when traveling on I-40 through Oklahoma.

HONORING A LEGEND OF AEROSPACE

The Stafford Air & Space Museum is located off I-40 in the small town of Weatherford, Oklahoma. Whether you’re taking advantage of the museum’s Harvest Host affiliation or just passing by, it’s worth taking an hour to see this incredible museum.

The museum is named in honor of local legendary hero, test pilot, and astronaut, Thomas P. Stafford. A portion of the museum is dedicated to covering his life history and sizeable impact on aerospace. His life story, from small-town high school football captain to US Naval Academy graduate and eventual astronaut makes for a compelling exhibit. What is truly amazing about this Smithsonian affiliate museum and is the variety and quantity of artifacts on display. A working replica of the Wright Brothers’ first plane, retired fighter jets, and flown space shuttle rocket boosters are all within arms reach.

For lovers of aerospace, the exhibits and history shared in this museum are mind-boggling. We were honestly shocked to see a museum of this caliber outside of the Washington Mall in Washington DC. For kids, this museum is a source of inspiration like few others might offer. After walking through the museum they spent the rest of the evening designing, folding, and launching paper airplanes in the parking lot as we camped out.

Jet Fighter, Stafford Air & Space Museum

"A must-see for families and aerospace lovers."

We’ve visited the National Air & Space Museum in DC, and while it may be considered the quintessential museum for aerospace, the Stafford museum offers a similar experience in a more intimate setting. Don’t miss a chance to visit this wonderful tribute to an American legend and the opportunity to learn about the history of flight.
