HIGHLIGHTS

Considered one of the best WW2 museums in the world.

LESSONS OF THE PAST

When we learned there was a world-renowned World War 2 museum in New Orleans we knew we had to visit. Lucio recently finished reading Night by Elie Wiesel and it seemed fitting to take him.

The museum is massive by any measure, comprised of five buildings, and covers the entirety of the war. The highlight for us was a 4D movie, Beyond All Boundaries, with an introduction and narration by Tom Hanks. If you visit the museum this is required viewing; you won’t regret it.

To see the entire museum easily requires a full day, if not more. We spent our time in the Campaigns of Courage: Pacific Theater section. Lucio pressed to see this exhibit given his affinity for all things Japanese, and I to learn more about the experience of my great-grandfather who served in the Pacific.

The sheer amount of detail and artifacts about the war is staggering. History buffs will be completely immersed; others boggled by the scale and tragedy of this bleak period in human history. If you ever find yourself in New Orleans, enjoy the French Quarter, have a drink on Bourbon Street, see Jackson Square, but do not miss this wonderful and important museum.
