Suwannee River Rendezvous

HIGHLIGHTS

1980’s Camp vibe with river, good wifi in the lodge and tons of outdoor activities for kids.

A Blast from the past

We spent a week on the banks of the Suwannee River on our drive west out of Florida. Located adjacent to Convict Springs on the Suwannee River, this RV park and campground seems like time has stood still here since the ’80s. If you ever spent time at a summer camp, Suwannee River Rendezvous will feel like deja vu.

The “resort” is composed of two parts, the upper Suwannee and the Lower Suwannee. The upper Suwannee is a traditional RV park, metered out in organized rows. There are no concrete pads but our pull-through, site 162, was level. Decent shade from trees in some parts and a pool, hot tub, and conversation pool are available for guests. You’ll find some people staying here long term. The Lower Suwannee is where the lodge is located, hidden under a canopy of large oak trees covered in moss. There are RV spots for smaller rigs as well as a ton of tent camping.

As far as things to do, Suwannee has you covered. On Fridays and the weekend, Grandma Susie’s Cookin’ Shack has a menu with decent food. The lodge has scheduled activities like bingo and other organized gatherings. Most unique is the weekly Pigeon Races and Chicken Poop Bingo.

We were happy to find other families camping. The kids made and played with plenty of friends. Most families will love Suwannee River Rendezvous and its offerings for kids.

Don’t expect a five-star resort stay. The Suwannee thrives on its woodsy summer camp vibe. We would love to come back and enjoy the springs when it is not flooded; especially when the river is navigable for kayaking and tubing.
Note: Cell service for AT&T is abysmal… don’t expect to get any work done unless you go to the lodge and spend the day there.
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be visiting again when the opportunity arises.

Convict Springs

The River Overflows

To our surprise we arrived at the beginning of a flood. The river was rising at a rate of a foot every day. While we were here the river rose about 6 feet. With the recent snow storm and rain up in Georgia the massive amounts of water heading down the Suwannee river from its headwaters was impressive to see. There are numerous signs on a tree in the photo that show the various water levels of previous floods!
