Bluewater Key RV Resort

HIGHLIGHTS

Gated RV Park 30 minutes north of Key West with RV spots on the water.

Waterfront Rv'ing at its finest

We discovered Bluewater Key RV Resort on our favorite camping app, Campendium, and booked it over a month out. We were lucky they had a four-day window for a little family vacation. Our folks came along so this was a packed RV adventure for the weekend, to say the least. Bluewater made it feel like we had a whole house to share. In fact, we barely spent any time in the RV at all which is the point when you stay at an RV park, in the Florida Keys, on the water, with a dock, and kayaks, and… well you get the point.

Bluewater Key RV Park is nestled on a rectangular peninsula jutting off A1A. If you don’t pay attention, you’ll miss it. It’s a few miles in either direction before you reach another island with any commercial stores or gas stations. The park is gated and the RV spots are only located on the perimeter (with the exception of a few landlocked spots in the center). You can choose from the oceanside or canal side. We went with canal-side and honestly think it’s the better choice. The oceanside can be very windy and provides less shade.

What sets Bluewater apart from all the other RV parks you’ve been to has to be the dockage that comes with almost every RV site. We had a 20′ dock in the rear of our spot and were able to have kayaks delivered to us, which we kept during our entire stay, and easily launch on a kayak journey at a moment’s notice.

In addition to the on-the-water vibe, our site came with a large tiki hut housing a kitchenette (fridge and microwave) and a large countertop. This made cooking on our flat top grill a breeze and we were able to store all our food and drinks in the full-size fridge instead of constantly going in and out of the camper. Also under the tiki hut are a couple of couches and a flat-screen TV with cable for those who enjoy watching their shows on the road.

The dock space was roughly 8′ by 20′ with ample room to stage your fishing expeditions or practice your morning yoga routine.

By far our favorite part of this location was the ability to hop on and off the kayaks. An added bonus is a quick, obligatory 30-minute drive to Key West to watch the show that is Duval Street.

Bluewater is a once-a-year spot for the average RVer as the rates are rather expensive, but we think everyone should splurge on this park at some point on their RV adventure.
